Do you feel like scratching around your inner thighs and buttocks? You might have just caught a Jock Itch rash. Learn what causes this itchy yeast infection and find out how to cure Jock Itch.
Jock Itch Rash is an infection in the area between the abdomen and the thigh on either side of the body. In other words, Jock Itch strikes in the genital area. In the medical field, it is commonly known as Tinea Cruris. Tinea comes Latin and means “worm”, whereas Cruris refers to the lower leg area. Medical terms also include ringworm of the groin, crotch itch, eczema marginatum and scrot rot.
What causes Jock Itch Rash?
First, we need to stress out that one of the reasons that cause Jock Itch is a diminished immune system, which happens quite frequently. Your body might be weak and can’t defend itself against infection (read more about how to get a strong immune system).
Having said that, Jock Itch happens when a particular kind of yeast infection (fungus) grows and spreads out in the genital area. It is common to see the ringworm in adult and teenage males.
Some patients who have groin ringworm also get athlete’s foot as well as ringworm because the fungus likes to grow in confined, warm and humid area of the body.
Another reason why Jock Itch occurs may be due to clothes rubbing against skin and the genital area being wet (from perspiration).
As Tinea Cruris is contagious, it can be caught from one person by skin contact or unwashed clothing. As a word of advice, avoid skin-to-skin contact and store your unwashed clothes in a different laundry basket to avoid other clothes to be contaminated.
How Do You Know You Have a Yeast Infection (Groin Ringworm)?
Jock Itch symptoms include red scaly patches that may develop small bubbles filled with fluid. Note that those red patched are more reddish around the outside, while the center may appear as normal skin tone. Sometimes, Jock Itch may look like a “Dalmatian” pattern, where there are light and dark skin patches around the groin area.

How To Get Rid Of Jock Itch
There are some ways you can treat Groin Ringworm. First, try to keep your skin clean and remove excess of humidity in the groin area. As mentioned earlier, if you have any clothes that cause friction and irritates your inner thighs, avoid wearing them and try to wear loose-fitting clothes, which include underwear. It is also important to wear your clothes only once and wash them to avoid germ development.
An effective Jock Itch treatment consists in using a Ketoconazole Cream (read more), which is a topical antifungal cream that will kill the yeast. Nizoral Cream is often recommended as it contains 2% Ketoconazole. Click on Nizoral Cream to learn more how to cure jock itch.
